Benoît (God of war) Saint Denis, born on 18 December 1995, is a French professional mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division (Currently ranked 12) in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Saint Denis started his journey in combat sports by practicing kickboxing with Stéphane Susperregui and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) with Christophe Savoca in 2017. He showcased his skills in BJJ by winning the medium-heavyweight division in the blue belt category at the 2017 West Zone Championship in France.
In September 2018, Saint Denis caught the attention of renowned French coach Daniel Woirin during a test. Woirin, who has won three belts as a coach at UFC and two at Strikeforce with MMA champions like Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, and Lyoto Machida, recognized Saint Denis’ potential. Deciding to pursue a professional career in MMA, Saint Denis ended his contract with the French Armed Forces in early 2019. He set a goal for himself to reach the highest level in MMA within two years, utilizing his savings to train full time and secure a contract with the UFC.
Saint Denis adopts a combat style focused on wrestling and submissions. While he is willing to engage in stand-up striking exchanges, his strategic approach involves using striking to pressure opponents against the fence, creating opportunities for takedowns and submissions.
Having won his last five UFC fights, Saint Denis has demonstrated his prowess in the octagon. Out of those victories, two were through submissions, while three were achieved via knockout (KO) or technical knockout (TKO), and none of his last five fights lasted more than two rounds.
