In a recent discussion on his YouTube channel, Bo Nickal expressed his belief on Khamzat Chimaev’s UFC Title Shot. Bo thinks that Khamzat Chimaev does not deserve a shot at the UFC title, despite the possibility of the organization granting him one in his next fight.
While Nickal sees Israel Adesanya as the front-runner for the next opportunity at 185 pounds, he predicts that Chimaev will eventually get shot at the title.
Nickal justified his stance by highlighting that Chimaev has not faced many opponents in the middleweight division, stating, “I don’t think he’s fought a single 85er. He’s fought less 85ers than me, and my guys aren’t even in the roster anymore.” According to Nickal, Chimaev should have to fight more contenders before being granted a title shot.
In reference to the middleweight title fight at UFC 297 in Toronto, Nickal believed that Sean Strickland had done enough to retain his belt, despite acknowledging the closely contested nature of the bout. He scored the fight 3-2 in favor of Strickland, giving him Rounds 1, 2, and 5. Nickal admitted that Round 2 was the most questionable round, but ultimately felt that Strickland had edged it out.
Nickal provided insights into the fighting styles of both Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis, noting that Strickland primarily relies on boxing, teep kicks, and solid defense, while Du Plessis possesses more power and versatility in his attacks, including wilder shots, takedowns, and varied striking techniques. He also mentioned that Strickland seemed to have a slower pace than usual in the fight, speculating that it could be due to the pressure of being the champion or possibly having an off-training camp.
While Bo Nickal believes that Khamzat Chimaev may eventually receive a title shot, he remains skeptical of Chimaev’s qualifications and emphasizes the importance of earning it by facing more opponents in the middleweight division.
