Bellator veteran, Ireland’s Ryan Curtis suffers devastating spine injury during training

Former Bellator fighter Ryan Curtis has suffered a devastating training injury.

Featherweight contender Leah McCourt, a close friend of Curtis’, announced on social media that Curtis injured his back, neck, and spine during a training session on Thursday. McCourt also shared a GoFundMe page seeking donations to provide support to Curtis and his family.

Curtis has suffered a broken back, broken neck, and dislocated spine. The injury also caused trauma to his spinal cord, classified as the most severe damage possible. He underwent emergency surgery at the Royal in Belfast and currently has no movement in his legs or left arm. The road to recovery is uncertain, with at least five months in the hospital and further treatment with a specialist spine team.

Ryan Curtis, a professional MMA fighter since 2015, with a record of 6-4, will never be able to participate in MMA again. McCourt described it as a sport he dedicated his life to from the age of 11. A GoFundMe page has been created to help raise funds for his rehabilitation, vital treatment, recovery, and to support his family during this challenging time.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor expressed his support and well wishes for Ryan Curtis, acknowledging the life-changing injury he suffered during practice. McGregor encouraged others to support Curtis and his family by sharing a link to the GoFundMe page.
